Network Security
Information is critical to modern business operations and productivity sustainment. Owners must not only protect their information from external attack, but modern legislation requires that they must audit and control access to it by internal staff. This control requirement and legislative need can make the difference between a business surviving an attack or investigation, or going under.
However, as operating systems become more and more complex the task of securing them becomes more complicated and businesses cannot afford to let the enthusiastic employee do their best to administer and secure their critical servers.
Penetration Testing (aka Pen Testing, Ethical Hacking or Red Teaming) is where a network or system is tested by an external person acting as a hacker. They utilise many of the hacker methods and tools in an effort to gain further access or escalate privileges.
Penetration testing is a serious undertaking that must be correctly authorised and endorsed by high level management.
The benefits of a penetration test are:
A clear understanding of the current vulnerable security enforcing components;
Vulnerable internal data and exploitable services are identified;
Security Architecture can be ratified as being sufficient, value for money or worthless;
Security procedures can be ratified as being accurate, current and effective.
